The ICBC billing snafu finally broke on the weekend, and the insurance monopoly’s handling was as abysmal as ever.
Honestly, with ten executives making $300,000 plus a year, 47 making $200,000 plus a year, and 121 topping $150,000 a year (all 2012 numbers via www.vancouversun.com/pay/), you’d think the corporation would be better run.
A whistleblower first tipped us off a couple of weeks ago that something weird was happening at ICBC. A ton of internal resources had apparently been dedicated to getting ICBC’s website up to speed and able to handle thousands of angry ratepayers.
Over on his blog, Bob Mackin has more details and even the draft letter ICBC planned to send to customers in July.
Mackin reports the whole review was triggered by a Freedom of Information request, meaning an outsider may have figured out ICBC’s error before they did.
You can bet there is plenty more to come on this one.
